Exam Week
Madness...
Let’s get ready to rummmmmbbbbble!!!
It’s exam week, which means four days of long-form testing across seven periods. I have six of them - three freshman sections and three sophomore sections. At most, there are two in a day, so there is time to grade and get the numbers punched into the online system (PowerSchool for us).
The exams don’t really bother me. I simplify them so only a lack of preparation is what dooms any student. There are plenty of opportunities every semester to throw the proverbial landmines in front of the kids, and as such, I avoid that as much as possible with this portion of the school year. One of my mantras as a teacher is transparency and to put students in position to succeed with only themselves to blame if they do not.
The X factor this week is the weather. Here on the Shore, the average January temperature during the day is high 30’s to low 40’s with a nighttime low around 30. These days will have overnight lows between 10-13 and highs around 20-25. Only when we get to Thursday and Friday will things normalize again. Can’t say I’m looking forward to it.
I am glad that we had today off for Martin Luther King Day. My Sunday was an aggravation watching the Eagles in the afternoon and it took quite a while to unwind from it. But this coming Sunday, NFC championship game! And all I have to do it get through a bunch of exams and get them graded.
Should be simple. One would think, anyway…
